There is a clear need for wide-reaching factual information programmes on AMR according to several recent surveys on consumer perceptions and awareness of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This points to the growing need for greater understanding and demonstrates that science-based information should be one of the main points of action for the upcoming EU Action Plan to combat antimicrobial resistance, says IFAH-Europe.
IFAH-Europe welcomes the European Medicines Agency’s and the European Food Safety Agency’s summary conclusions of their joint opinion on EU measures to reduce the need to use antimicrobials in animal husbandry as an important acknowledgement that there is no perfect farming system and that multifaceted approaches, taking into account local livestock production practices, are key to successful strategies for tackling AMR.
The Agri-Food Chain Coalition (AFCC) appointed Roxane Feller, Secretary General of IFAH-Europe (International Federation of Animal Health-Europe) as its new Chair today. She will lead this multi-stakeholder group throughout 2017 to enhance understanding of the European agri-food chain sector’s important role and contribution to an innovative and sustainable Europe.
